PUBLIC AND COMMUNITY ART

IPSWICH WATER FRONT MURAL 2022

In May 2022 , Uwu Studio was invited to paint a huge mural as part of a larger paint up project , totalling to 3 murals being painted over 6 weeks. Lily Hammond of Uwu Studio worked alongside - A.C.Y.C.L.E - Afro Caribbean Youth Learning Experience and Karibu an African Women’s group. Initially , working together through 3 workshops to generate ideas, and be informed by the local Black community to create the artwork. The art has links to Lily’s best selling inspirational women colouring book, depicting Maya Angelou , an inspirational woman of colour. Allowing the young people in the community, to see a mural of a black woman in the public domain, hopefully creating inspiration and pride, but also celebrating representation. The mural painting was assisted by local emerging artist Frederico Ramos.

BIG HOOT - OWL TRAIL 2022

In 2022, Uwu Studio was commissioned by the University of Suffolk to create a painted sculpture as part of an art trail. The Wild in Art trail was created to raise money for St Elizabeth's Hospice, artists were commissioned to paint a sculpture and sponsored by businesses to display the owl in the town throughout the whole summer. Following the art trail, the owls flew off to new homes, after being sold at auction to raise money for the hospice. Painted in emulsion, acrylic paint and acrylic markers. Decorated similarly to Uwu Studios best selling design, Totally Tropical.

GAINSBOROUGH COMMUNITY LIBRARY MURAL 2021

In 2021 Uwu Studio collaborated with Suffolk Libraries on another great community art project. Lily, and Suffolk Libraries have worked together on a number of workshops, community projects and murals. The mural was created to enhance the outside space at Gainsborough community library and was made in collaboration with young people aged from just 3 years old up to 20. The project began with a series of creative workshops, generating ideas for what the young library users would like at their library. Ideas were generated inspired by postivitity and wellbeing, encouraging Lily to create designs based on their suggested colour schemes and quotes. The young people voted for their favourite design and throughout the week they collaboratively worked on painting the mural which is now on display outside the library.
